BIG thanks to those who came out and volunteered at Clean the World in Orlando!
About the organization:
Clean the World Foundation was established in Orlando in 1990, with the goal of improving the quality of life and helping to save lives by recycling hotel used soap bars and shampoo. The foundation provides hygienic supplies and educates schools, health centers and community clinics in vulnerable communities worldwide. Recently, the foundation has begun shipping kits to our own border, where immigrants do not have access to the supplies they need.
The first pick up on 3/2/2009, amounted to 102.7 lbs of used soap bars and shampoo bottles. In addition to Orlando, they have now processing facilities in Las Vegas, Amsterdam, Vancouver, DR, and Hong Kong.
The Orlando facility needs 1,000 volunteers every month to keep the center operating. Our job today was to sort through all the donated used soap bars and remove any trash, paper, wrapping.

This box was completely empty at 9:00 and 3 hours later…FILLED! We had a little fun trying to match the soap bar to the hotel brand. 3 additional boxes were filled during the same time slot by other volunteers. If that was just 3 hours, how much soap does our industry really waste?
The checked soap bars go through 3 filtering processes and gets “noodlized” before getting molded into bars.
